Bible Verses for Mothers

Motherhood is long days, short years, and a love that prays without ceasing. These scriptures are for the mother rocking a newborn at 3am, the one waiting up for a teenager, and the one whose children now live far away.

Proverbs 31:25-28 honors a mother who is “clothed with strength and dignity,” whose “children rise up and call her blessed,” and Isaiah 66:13 gives God’s own picture of mother-love: “As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you.”

Proverbs 31:25-28

Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband praises her as well:

Isaiah 66:13

As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”

Psalms 127:3

Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Isaiah 40:11

He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the nursing ewes.

2 Timothy 1:5

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced is in you as well.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Psalms 139:13-14

For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.

Luke 1:46-49

Then Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For He has looked with favor on the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One has done great things for me. Holy is His name.

Psalms 121:7-8

The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
