Bible Verses for Your Wedding Day
The dress, the flowers, the butterflies — and underneath it all, two people making the biggest promise of their lives. These verses have blessed weddings for generations, and they will still be true on your fiftieth anniversary.
Your wedding day deserves words as lasting as the promises. First Corinthians 13:4 begins, “Love is patient, love is kind,” and Psalm 118:24 gives the day its banner: “This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.
This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Mighty waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, his offer would be utterly scorned.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’
And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.
My beloved is mine and I am his; he pastures his flock among the lilies.
Verses for the ceremony
First Corinthians 13 is the classic for a reason — read it slowly, not as poetry but as a job description. Ecclesiastes 4:12 gives marriage its structure: “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” The third strand is the whole secret.
A blessing to carry into the marriage
Long after the cake, you will need Numbers 6:24-26 more than anything on the registry: “May the LORD bless you and keep you… may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you… and give you peace.” Speak it over each other on the first morning.
A prayer for the wedding day
Lord, thank You for this day and for the one standing beside me. Bless our promises and teach us to keep them. Give us patience for the ordinary days and joy for all of them. May our home be built on You from the very first morning. Keep our love strong, gentle, and faithful. We give You this marriage from its first day. Amen.
