Bible Verses for the Night Before Surgery
Tomorrow morning has a time and a place, and you know both by heart. Tonight the house is quiet and your thoughts are not. These verses won’t promise an outcome — they do something better: they remind you whose hand you’re in, and they have carried many women through this same night.
Before surgery, Scripture offers steadiness, not slogans. Psalm 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble,” and Philippians 4:7 promises “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” to guard your heart and mind as you wait.

If you’re praying for a successful surgery
Ask plainly and specifically — that is not too bold. “O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me” (Psalm 30:2). Whether you are the one on the schedule or the one who will be waiting in the hallway, the same God is in both rooms.
If you’re lying awake
This is the hour Psalm 4:8 was written for: “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” Read it slowly, more than once. The night before surgery is long, but you do not have to carry it alone.
A prayer for the night before surgery
Lord, You know what tomorrow holds, and You are already there. I place myself in Your hands tonight — my body, the surgeons’ hands, the outcome I cannot control. Give me Your peace, the kind that makes no sense on a night like this. Watch over the people who love me. Let me feel that You are near, and let me sleep in safety. Amen.
