Bible Verses for a Sick Child

Nothing reorders a mother’s world like a sick child — the thermometers, the tiny hospital bracelets, the bargaining at 2am. The Gospels are full of parents who pushed through crowds to bring Jesus their children. He never once turned them away.

Few prayers rise faster than a mother’s for a sick child. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them,” and James 5:15 promises that “the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick.” Bring your child to Him as boldly as any parent in the Gospels.

Mark 10:13-16

Now people were bringing the little children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them, and the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.

James 5:15

And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

Isaiah 41:10

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.

Psalms 46:1

For the choirmaster. Of the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A song. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.

Psalms 121:7-8

The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.

Jeremiah 30:17

But I will restore your health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD, because they call you an outcast, Zion, for whom no one cares.”

Psalms 34:18

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.

Matthew 15:28

“O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

Mark 5:34

“Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free of your affliction.”

Psalms 127:3

Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.

Praying over a hospital crib

The parents in the Gospels were not dignified about it, and you do not have to be either. A Canaanite mother begged for her daughter and heard, “O woman… your faith is great!” (Matthew 15:28). Ask big. Ask again. Jesus called that faith.

When you’re scared to sleep

Fear keeps its own night shift. Psalm 121:7-8 is your nightlight: “The LORD will guard you from all evil… The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.” He does not sleep, so you may.

A prayer for my sick child

Lord, You love this child even more than I do, which I can barely fathom. Touch the small body I cannot fix. Give wisdom to the doctors and peace to my child’s heart. Hold me steady through the long nights, and let my child feel safe in my arms and in Yours. We trust You with her tonight and every night after. Amen.
